Abstract

The syntheses, characterization and luminescent properties of europium(III) and terbium(III) cryptates synthesized by [2+3] condensation of tris(2-aminoethyl)amine with 2,6-diformyl-4-R-phenol (R = Cl, F, tBu) in the presence of Eu3+ or Tb3+ have been reported. The crystal structure of the europium cryptate (R = Cl) shows that the coordination number of the EuIII ion is nine and that a guest water molecule is encapsulated in the cavity. The cryptates have a high stability which confers good fluorescence properties in solution.
