Abstract

Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is one of the potential work hazards that computer users experience due to long exposures and performance of repetitive tasks. This research studied the symptoms of RSI among computer users in the University of Benin. Findings from the study showed that backache (43.1%), neck pain (39.0%), wrist pain (28.0%), shoulder pain (21.5%) and numbness (20.5%) were the most prevalent symptoms of RSI among the users. The findings also showed a dearth of knowledge on RSI among the users. Improper postures and lack of regular exercises during working periods were identified as some of the major causes of the RSI among computer users in the University of Benin. Appropriate recommendations were made to reduce the incidents of RSI.
