Abstract
516 Species (including subspecies, varieties, and forms), 167 genera and 58 families of lianas were found in Hainan Island by field survey and data examination. According to the texture of their stems, the lianas in Hainan could be divided into 3 kinds: 387 species of woody lianas, 108 species of herb lianas, 21 species of climbing shrub lianas. The paper reviewed the development and utilization of the lianas from three aspects, including economy value (food, pharmaceutical, and handicraft), urban landscaping and ecological recovery. This review may provide a scientific basis for protection and development of lianas resources.
