Abstract

Outpatient surgery under general anesthesia on infants and children is safe and efficient. When endotracheal anesthesia is properly administered, it can be used safely and without hesitation on pediatric outpatients. The advantages of treating pediatric surgical cases as outpatients include maximum convenience for the parents, lessened emotional trauma for the patient, reduced postoperative morbidity, elimination and exposure to hospital infections, reduced cost, and more efficient utilization of the surgeon's time.
