Abstract

Pericardiectomy is performed for a wide variety of pericardial diseases including relapsing pericarditis, effusive-constrictive pericarditis, and chronic constriction. In each of these conditions, we prefer complete pericardiectomy with removal of the anterior and diaphragmatic pericardium. Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and radiation-induced disease present special challenges. Surgical outcomes depend on the underlying pathology, degree of preoperative disability, and associated cardiac and systemic diseases.
