Abstract

Inelastic scattering of fast electrons on nuclei and two-particle correlations in nuclei are considered. A general relation is established between the inelastic scattering cross section and two-particle correlation functions for nucleons in a nucleus. The spectral distributions of the two-particle correlation functions are calculated on basis of the shell model. The double magic nuclei 4He, 16O and 40Ca are considered as examples. The sum rules for the correlation functions are derived. With 4He as an example, the effect of the motion of the centre of inertia on the correlation functions is examined.
