Abstract

Comparative assays were carried out to determine the median protective dose of both live and inactivated Newcastle disease vaccines using a range of challenge strains. Significant variation between challenge strains was found with both types of vaccine using challenge administered by aerosol or by intramuscular injection. In order that the protective capacities of vaccines may be compared on an international scale, the use of a standardized challenge strain is recommended.
