Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of high-intensity laser irradiation on the state of microcirculation in the patients presenting with gonarthrosis. It included 40 patients with this condition at the ag from 40 to 75 years who were randomly allocated to two groups. Group 1 was comprised of 20 patients treated by high-intensity laser irradiation (HILl), the patients of group 2 (n = 20) underwent the placebo treatment. It was shown that high-intensity laser irradiation is an effective pathogenetically sound method for the management of the patients with gonarthrosis. The mechanism of enhancement of its clinical effectiveness consists of the correction of local blood circulation that accounts for the anti-inflammatory effect, decreased destruction of the connective tissue, and the improvement of the locomotor function of the affected joints.
