Abstract
The subretrofacial nucleus is a compact group of cells within the rostral ventrolateral medulla that regulates the sympathetic outflow to the cardiovascular system. This nucleus has distinctive histochemical and receptor-binding properties and is a major site of convergence of inputs arising from peripheral receptors as well as higher brain centres.
