Abstract
Abstract An attempt is made to retrieve aerosol number density based on the thermal infrared data obtained with VTIR (Visible and Thermal Infrared Radiometer) onboard MOS-1 (Marine Observation Satellite 1). It is found that in low moisture condition, aerosol number density can be retrieved from the thermal infrared remote sensing data as one of the maximum likelihood solutions of radiative transfer equation. The application of the method to MESSR data indicates a satisfactory result.
