Abstract

Quantum dots (QDs) have been extensively studied owing to their unique size-dependent optical, electronical, photophysical and electrochemical properties. The electrochemiluminescent (ECL) behavior of Si nanocrystals (NCs) was reported originatively, it initiated the ECL researches on semiconductor NCs, thence growing attention has been paid to the ECL studies of semiconductor QDs such as CdS, CdSe and CdTe etc. These QDs provide potential approach for developing the new ECL sensors. The ECL method has progressed rapidly in these years. It is based on the detection of light emission during the electrolysis of luminescent reagent. Compared with general used luminescent reagents as luminol or ruthenium bipyridine, the QDs might be better for development of ECL sensors because of the facility of immobilization. Among those researches, the ECL emission of CdTe QDs has been reported.
