Abstract

Abstract : The two-photon conductivity in GaAs and CdS(0.5) - Se(0.5) and the three-photon conductivity in CdS were investigated with the use of Mode-locked Nd:glass laser as the exciting source. The square law dependence of the two- photon conductivity and the cubic law dependence of the three-photon conductivity on the excitation intensity were subsequently used to measure the autocorrelation of the intensity in second and third order of the picosecond pulses from the mode-locked Nd:glass laser. The absorption coefficients estimated from the photoconductivity measurement were found to agree in order of magnitude with the theoretically calculated values from time dependent perturbation theory and the band structure of the semiconductor.
