Abstract

The compositions of the second phase particles in grain oriented 3%Si-Fe have been studied by using the scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM). Second phase particles have been extracted from hot rolled band, primary recrystallized samples, and samples at the early stage of secondary recrystallization. The results of x-ray microanalysis have indicated that copper is a key element in the formation of second phase particles in both conventional and high permeability grain oriented 3%Si-Fe, and thus plays an important role in primary grain growth inhibition. The changes in the composition of the particles through the processes have also been studied.
