Abstract

This paper dissertates that using spread spectrum frequency modulation (SSFM) control techniques for carrier will reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) in power electronic converters. It demonstrates that the SSFM control can lower the peak amplitude at carrier and its harmonic frequencies effectively. Several SSFM effects for sinusoidal carrier and PWM carrier with different periodic signals are discussed. It also presents that SSFM with periodic signal can control the band width so that filters can be designed expediently. Finally, the paper probes into the problem of restraining EMI at some certain frequency using SSFM control techniques.
