Abstract

A formulation is presented that allows one to describe backscattered echoes from elastic shells near pressure release and rigid interfaces. This formulation is always consistent even at low frequencies and large distances from the interfaces and allows for the rapid reproduction of backscattered echoes over frequency ranges of practical interest. Numerical results are examined for pulse signals scattering from various targets as a function of target material, distance from the interface, and the effect that the two interface extremes have on the detected signals.
