Abstract

Abstract The ternary phase diagram of LAS/AES/H2O was constructed at room temperature by polarizing optical microscope (POM) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Four main liquid crystal phases were identified, which corresponded to micelle, hexagonal, cubic and lamellar phase, respectively. Among these phases, lamellar phase was the largest area and cubic phase was the smallest. Transitional phases between different main phases were also determined by POM and SAXS. Structure parameters of repeat distances and rheological behavior for typical phases were studied by SAXS and rheometer. In addition, the viscosity distribution of the phase map was measured by viscometer. Furthermore, the effects of electrolyte (NaCl) on phase behavior and rheological properties of LAS/AES/H2O system were also investigated.
