Abstract

A free space optical (FSO) network can provide broadband local access and low probability of intercept. In order to realize rapid establishment of optical links in FSO network, we proposed an ultra-wide field-of-view (FOV) acquisition scheme, which is achieved by using a fisheye lens. With it, the signals from different nodes and directions can be received. In addition, fast successive scanning is permitted to establish the optical links with an ultra-wide FOV receiver, and the scanning time model for it is established. The simulation results show that an average scanning time of 7 s and a maximum scanning speed of 30.8 deg/s are achieved with a 185° receiver FOV and this for the entire uncertainty region of +/ 8°, i.e. the 3s uncertainty region.
