Abstract

This new handbook gives an insight into what a nurse is, nurse training and what to expect from a nursing degree. It begins with the basics: why choose a particular field of nursing and how do students’ perceptions of nursing change with experience? These are particularly relevant for prospective nursing students. What sets this book apart from similar titles is its emphasis on presenting the voices and opinions of today’s students. Each section begins with quotes from students from adult, child, mental health and learning disability strands. This helps to give students an insight into all aspects of nursing. Comments in the section on support systems while on placement reveal how such help varies between different trusts and universities. The layout is comprehensive and concise, with a wealth of up-to-date information. This handbook covers all the main aspects of a nursing degree, from the initial decision to be a nurse, through to learning styles and placements, and the transition to becoming a registered nurse.
