Abstract

Xylindein has been isolated from infected wood and several new derivatives have been prepared. Spectroscopic examination of xylindein and its derivatives has established the orientation of the substituents on the central peri-xanthenoxanthene nucleus which has been identified by a mass spectral analysis of the zinc dust distillation product.
