Abstract

South-Western Oltenia is known to be a tradition re gion for vegetables cropping, and the pedo-agro- climate conditions in the adjacent counties are fav orable from this respect. Under the market conditions, people's demand is the one that tells agricultural producers how much and what to produce. Vegetables demand, and as well foodstuff produces is determined by people's alimentat ion models and the physiological consumption necessary (i.e. potential demand), while the effective demand is determined by people's buying capacity. Studying the vegetables demand, there are some aspects to be noticed, as they follow: the average vegetables production/ inhabitant and the way it sa tisfies the potential demand; the structure of the physiological consumption necessary for different vegetables and the satisfaction degree of the consumption from ow n production; effective demand and the relation betwe en the former and the physiological consumption nec essary. In order to cover entirely the vegetables necessary in one's production for the population in South- Western region of Oltenia, there were taken into co nsideration: establishing the consumption necessary at the level of the region's and the component counties, b ut also at the level of the main municipalities and towns;, establishing the vegetable in-goings in counties an d towns.
