Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the structure of student's leisure, which seems to be a combination of the most preferred shapes and types of leisure activities of students, formed under the influence of various environmental factors. In this case, special attention is paid to the determinants of leisure activities. Taking the characteristics of students as a special socio-demographic group into, micro-social factors were taken as the most important: time, material, communicative and a factor of territorial accessibility of leisure facilities. Leisure preferences were revealed by identifying preferred forms and types of leisure activities for students, with different orientation – educational, entertaining and creative. The study was held in March 2017 (method of survey was used, a multi-stage cluster sampling). 374 students from leading Smolensk universities were surveyed. The study established leisure preferences of today's students, the degree of student engagement in educational, entertainment and creative types spend their leisure time, the degree of influence of social factors on the selection of certain types of free time. The extent to which student leisure is focused on self-development, and how strong hedonic mood was recorded. The given results of studying the structure of leisure activities of modern students help to systematize and deepen available data on the specificity and characteristics of the considered aspect of the life of modern youth, thus contributing to the increment of sociological knowledge. In addition, the results of the study are of practical value for the implementation of improving the organization of extracurricular activities of young people during their period of study at universities. They will also be useful in the work of regional authorities dealing with youth issues and can be used in the development of branch sociological disciplines.
