Abstract

We have determined the crystal structure of an ordered aqueous suspension of polystyrene spheres using Bragg scattering of laser light. At low concentrations a body-centered cubic structure is found. At higher concentrations this is found together with face-centered cubic. We believe that the ordering is due to Coulomb repulsion as in the Wigner crystal.
