Abstract

Mechanical properties and structure of a thin aluminum coating were investigated. Experimental methods of measuring yield stress, strength and fracture strain of ultrathin coatings were developed. Yield stress, strength and fracture strain of aluminum increase with decrease in the coating thickness. The increase of yield stress and strength was explained by reduction of the crystal size and by strain-hardening of metal.
