Abstract
Extraction of the dried fruits from the cannon ball tree, Couroupita guianensis Aubl., yielded 6,12-dihydro-6, 12-dioxoindolo[2,1- b]quinazoline (tryptanthrin), 1a as well as indigo ( 7) indirubin ( 8a) and isatin. Compound 1a could readily be synthesized by condensation of isatin with isatoic anhydride ( 6) in pyridine.
