Abstract

Based on the known reflection spectra of three different specimens, a complete set of fundamental optical functions of a diamond in the region 4–32 eV is calculated. An analysis of the specific features of the diamond is given. For the first time the dielectric function has been resolved into 13 components by the Argand diagram method. For each component, three basic parameters have been established (the energy of the maximum, the band half-width, and the oscillator strength). On the basis of the well-known theoretical calculations carried out for the zones of the diamond, a general model of the nature of these components is suggested.
