Abstract

Possible forms of structure in fibres are described, together with a list of sources of evidence. The effects of nucleation and growth of crystals in man-made fibres are shown to influence fibre structure. Opinions of the most likely structure in vegetable fibres, wool and hair fibres, regenerated cellulose fibres, and synthetic fibres are expressed, and interpretations of mechanical properties are considered.
