Abstract

Using a combination of chemical degradation, high resolution PMR spectroscopy and ORD, the structure and absolute configuration of the two closely related tricyclic sesquiterpenic hydrocarbons, α- and β-bourbonene, were determined. An application of PMR spectroscopy to the problems of the stereochemistry of a substituted cyclobutane is discussed.
