Abstract
1. 1.|Changes in haematocrit, plasma osmolarity and chloride concentrations were monitored in the Antarctic teleost, Pagothenia borchgrevinki before and after exposure to a 10°C rise in water temperature (0°–10°C) for 10 min. 2. 2.|All the parameters monitored were elevated after exposure to the 10°C sea water. Haematocrit exhibited the largest rise, increasing from 19.7–40.9%. 3. 3.|Despite haematocrit increasing by 100%, return to control levels occurred within 12 h. Plasma osmolarity and chloride concentrations took only 8 h to return to resting values.
