Abstract

The stress fields in a wedge-s haped isotropic elastic space containing a straight edge dislocation parallel to its edge are calculated using the method of virtual surface dislocations and a Mellin transformation. Exact analytical expressions for the stresses are represented in the Mellin space. Examples which illustrate the stress fields are given in form of equistress curves. The force on the dislocation in the glide plane caused by the surface depends on the wedge angle and on the position of the dislocation. If the dislocation is placed on the bisecting plane of the wedge with Burgers vector directed towards its vertex this force is independent of the wedge angle. A special case considered is a semi-i nfinite mixed mode-I and mode-I I crack in the vicinity of the edge dislocation.
