Abstract
{10–12} twin is one of the softest deformation modes in magnesium. And basal stacking fault is one of the most abundant planar defects in magnesium. In this work, we studied the strengthening effects of basal stacking faults on {10–12} twin, using molecular dynamics method. The results suggest that both stacking faults I1 and I2 show great strengthening potentials on {10–12} twin. Moreover, the strengthening effects of stacking fault I1 is stronger than that of I2. As byproducts, the morphologies of dislocations on the {10–12} twin boundary and BP interface were characterized. A formation mechanism of BP interface was also proposed.
