Abstract

A palaeomagnetic database, containing a summary of key palaeomagnetic parameters derived from palaeomagnetic analysis of a wide range of geological formations has been developed at the Institut de Physique du Globe, Strasbourg. This database is stored on 5 ¼ in. diskette which can be read by any microcomputer equipped with a suitable text editor. the database currently contains some 400 records mainly derived from geological formations in Europe, Africa and the Tethys belt (from the Antilles to the Philippines) and it is planned to be extended in the future. the purpose of this communication is to outline the structure of the database and to encourage palaeomagnetic researchers to submit new entries to the database, in a standard format, in order to facilitate rapid dissemination of new palaeomagnetic data. All contributors will receive a copy of the complete file in return, either as a printed paper output or on a 5 ¼ in. diskette.
