Abstract

Hirsutism is a complicating health challenge that impacts the lives of women. It is a condition characterized by unwanted, male pattern hair growth. Often times this hair is noted on the face, back, or chest (Dawber, 2005). This physical disorder impacts every aspect of life. Very few studies on the psychological impact of unwanted facial hair exist. Those that do suggest that unwanted facial hair has a detrimental impact on a woman's body image and quality of life; and is a source of emotional distress and social embarrassment (Blume-Peytavi et al., 2007).
