Abstract

The article analyzes the effectiveness of the Pró-Egresso and Patronato programs, which aim to provide assistance to individuals exiting the penal system. Initially, it discusses the norms of criminal law and the different forms of punishment, emphasizing the importance of debating their applicability and the goal of either resocializing or socializing the convicted, considering the intellectual and financial limitations that hinder their participation in modern society. The text also explores the origin of these programs and their connection with universities, highlighting how this relationship contributes to the implementation of public policies and the involvement of universities in social work. Furthermore, the article highlights the actions carried out through the University without Borders Program, promoting the interaction between teaching, research, and extension in universities, demonstrating the importance of this triple relationship in supporting the reentry of individuals from the penal system.
