Abstract

I would like to congratulate Morris et al.1 Morris R.I. Jackson N. Khan T. Karunanithy N. Thulasidasan N. Smith A. et al. Performance of open and closed cell laser cut nitinol stents for the treatment of chronic iliofemoral venous outflow obstruction in patients treated at a single centre. Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg. 2022; 63: 613-621 Google Scholar on their recent study of nitinol stents in the management of chronic iliofemoral venous obstruction (CIVO). A few additional points that maybe of interest to readers are listed. Response to: “The Stent’s Gatekeeper: Inflow Disease”European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular SurgeryVol. 64Issue 6PreviewWe would like to thank Dr Saleem for his comments on and insights into our study.1 There appear to be good early results from venous stenting,2 but there remains a need to better understand the factors that lead to a loss of stent patency. Stent inflow is one of the most important factors to evaluate when identifying suitable patients for this technology, but other factors also need to be considered; some of these are preventable as we have recently demonstrated for patients treated in the acute setting.
