Abstract

We have obtained V, I, and K band photometry for 290 square arcminutes in the Praesepe open cluster. The photometry reliably reaches 0.08 solar mass. We find six probable cluster members in the range 0.40 solar mass greater than M greater than 0.08 solar mass. The mass function we derive for Praesepe is similar to the field star Initial Mass Function (IMF). We conclude that dynamical processes that can lead to evaporation of low-mass members from stellar clusters have not occurred to a substantial extent in Praesepe.
