Abstract

The freshwater crab populations of the Khabur River in Syria exhibit a number of constant morphological characters distinguishing them from the other species within the Euphrates-Tigris system. A new species is erected under the name Potamon mesopotamicum to accommodate this very distinct form. Relations to other species of Potamon (Centropotamon) are discussed and the variability is described.
