Abstract
The exclusion of local communities in biodiversity conservation is one of the key underlying reasons for depleting biodiversity. The Forest Rights Act (FRA) of 2006 provides a framework for recognising the rights of forest dwelling communities over forest land and resources, including Protected Areas (PAs). This article1 examines the extent to which the potential of the FRA has been realised in PAs across India.
