Abstract

In the CARICOM region agricultural research is in a fairly strong position with over 400 research scientists; however, these are serviced by only a handful of biometricians. The major biometric problems of the region are extreme variability at experimental sites, difficulties in designing suitable on-farm trials and sometimes limited experimental resources. A few problems are outlined which relate to the design and analysis of agricultural experiments. Suggestions are made as to how to overcome the lack of biometric knowledge and the shortage of biometricians.
