Abstract

This study focused on Catharanthus coriaceus Markgraf (Apocynaceae), an endangered plant endemic to Madagascar and the results suggest that the habitat and taxonomic descriptions in the literature are inadequate. New primary and secondary habitats are described and core as well as marginal distribution estimates are made. The results of the distribution study suggest that C. coriaceus merits neither endangered nor vulnerable status and it is recommended that C. coriaceus be transferred from endangered to rare status.
