Abstract

Statistics and probability are included to varying degrees in the mathematics curriculum of most countries at the secondary school level. The rapidly changing nature of these subjects together with the explosion in computing power and software has, however, led to some changes in the emphasis given in these subjects. In particular in some countries there is an effort to emphasize more the aspects of data analysis and simulation. In this paper we briefly discuss some of the changes in curriculum that have recently taken place in the USA, Ireland and the UK (excluding Scotland) and the progress that is being made in implementing them.
