Abstract

Tricalcium phosphate with the ratio Ca : P = 1.5 and the empirical composition corresponding to the formula Ca3(PO4)2 · 3H2O is synthesized by precipitation from a solution. It constitutes hydroxyapatite with defective structure and is the extreme member of the solid solution series between tricalcium phosphate Ca3(PO4)2 and hydroxyapatite Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2. The state of water in the product structure and the dehydration specifics are considered. The presence of crystallographically nonequivalent water molecules is identified, which determines the stepwise course of dehydration.
