Performance ImprovementVolume 39, Issue 3 p. 6-15 Article The state of the profession Dale Brethower PhD, Dale Brethower PhD Dale Brethower, PhD, is the 1999-2000 ISPI president. He is a Professor of Psychology at Western Michigan University (AB, University of Kansas, AM Harvard University, and PhD University of Michigan). A licensed clinical psychologist, he teaches in a graduate certificate program in HPT, an MA program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and a PhD program in Applied Behavior Analysis. He has served on the Board of Directors of the International Society for Performance Improvement for almost four years. He serves as an editor for the Performance Improvement Quarterly, the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management, and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. He has authored or coauthored 10 books and more than 50 published papers and is a regular presenter at professional conferences. His most recent book, Performance-Based Instruction, coauthored by Karolyn Smalley, was published by Jossey-Bass in 1998. Dr. Brethower has been a consultant for more than 30 years, with a client list including more than 60 public and private sector organizations, primarily in the United States. A member of the Board of Directors of Triad Performance Technologies, he is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award from the Organizational Behavior Management Network of the Association for Behavior Analysis.
