Abstract

The primary function of drug discovery and development is to add good new drugs and vaccines to our therapeutic arsenal.Drug development in 1990 is exciting and exasperating. Its promise is glowing, but it is threatened in many ways. If we take the view that problems are just another name for opportunities, then the 1990s will give us lots of opportunities to achieve our goal of better medical therapy through new and better drugs.
