Abstract

Results are reported from an analysis of 164 CO (J = 1-0) spectra of the inner disk of M101, obtained using the 12-m NRAO telescope at Kitt Peak during April 1989. The data are presented in extensive tables, graphs, and contour maps and discussed in detail. A molecular-emission bar of length 2 arcmin is detected near the center of the galaxy. An offset of about 25 deg relative to the stellar bar seen in R-band images is shown to be consistent with a slowly rotating bar model, while the azimuthally averaged CO emission has a simple exponential radial distribution which differs significantly from the intermediate-radius excess seen in the H-alpha and FIR emission. 51 refs.
