Abstract

The lekking behaviour of the Standardwing Bird of Paradise Semioptera wallacii is described for the first time, including a communal arboreal display. The biology and distribution of the species is reviewed. Whilst it may be overlooked in the field the species appears to be patchily distributed and may be threatened unless measures are taken immediately to protect undisturbed areas of its habitat.
