Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of the standardized integrative therapy clinical pathways (CP) on inpatients with schizophrenia. Methods A total of 135 inpatients with schizophrenia in Beijing Anding hospital from Aug.2008 to Oct.2009 were randomly assigned to the two groups, with 65 cases in the CP group and 70 in the control group. Clinical pathway medical and nursing methods were applied in CP group and traditional medical and nursing methods in control group. The clinical data of the hospitalization days, hospitalization charges, and satisfaction of the patients and so on between CP group and control group were compared. Results Comparing with the control group, the patients of CP group had shorter hospitalization days [(41±13) d vs. (47±12) d; t=-2.555, P=0.012], lower charges [(9685.70±4213.75) yuan vs. (11 192.61±4118.50)yuan; t=-2.101, P=0.038]. The recovery rate, obvious improvement rate, and improvement rate in the CP group were 16.9%, 47.7%, 35.4% and the ones in the control group were 11.4%, 30.0%, 58.4% with significantly statistical differences (χ2=7.284, P=0.026). The satisfaction rate was higher in the CP group than the control group (100% vs. 88.6%, χ2=24.785, P=0.000). Conclusion The method of clinical pathways could markedly decrease the average hospitalization days and the hospitalization charges, and improve satisfaction of the patients with schizophrenia in inpatient department.
