Abstract

It has been proposed that it would be advantageous to standardise certain components in diagnostic X-ray apparatus, and I am bringing before you now for your consideration proposals that have been made for this purpose. It is not certain whether they will be possible, but what we want to know now is whether radiologists want such standardisation or have any other suggestions to make or want items to be included. All of us have, more especially since the war, realised very often that we have been severely restricted by the multiple types of equipment at our disposal, and we have found that component parts of different sets are not interchangeable, and that even replacement of minor equipment can be extremely difficult. I think it is essential in considering this matter to realise at the outset that there should be no effort made at all to standardise apparatus as a whole, because it would curb radiological work and would limit the individual; but standardisation of component parts would, it appears to be g...
