Abstract

The standard enthalpy of combustion of 1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one (camphor) has been measured in two aneroid static-bomb combustion calorimeters. The value ΔH o(C 10H 16O, c) = −(1410.7 ± 0.6) kcal th mol −1 yields the standard enthalpy of formation ΔH f o(C 10H 16O, c) = −(76.3 ± 0.6) kcal th mol −1. The standard enthalpy of sublimation has been calculated as ΔH s(C 10H 16O, 298.15 K) = (12.4 ± 0.2) kcal th mol −1. The corresponding gas-phase enthalpy of formation is ΔH o(C 10H 16O, g) = −(63.9 ± 0.7) kcal th mol −1.
