Abstract

The effect of pH on the inactivation of ragweed pollen extracts at 37° C. has been determined. After four hours, more than 75 per cent of the activity is destroyed in solutions the pH of which lies outside the approximate limits of 4.5 and 7.5. The pH region of maximum stability has been found to be approximately 5.5 to 6.5. It is tentatively suggested that the inactivation may be due to the denaturation of an active protein component of ragweed pollen.
