Abstract

The SSC linear accelerator will, in 1995, produce a 25 mA, 600 MeV, H − beam with transverse normalized rms emittance less than 0.3π mmmrad in 35 μs pulses at a 10 Hz repetition rate. By the time the collider is operational, the linac will have to operate with an availability for collider filling in excess of 98%. These stringent technical requirements have been translated into a very clean optics design, now in the final stages of hardware design. This paper will highlight some design features and review the status of design, procurement, fabrication and foreign contributions.
